Updated Plans for Dennistoun's Spaces for People Scheme

We previously set out plans for Dennistoun to create safer spaces and encourage active travel during COVID-19 through the widening of footways and by reducing or preventing access to 'through' motor traffic. 

This work was recently completed following a scheme adjustment not to take forward the provision of contra-flow cycle lanes.

As outlined when we first published plans for Dennistoun - temporary infrastructure delivered through the Spaces for People programme is relatively agile and can be adjusted as required. Having noted the scheme in practice and in consideration of community feedback, we will be removing some of the measures per the original scheme design, whilst retaining and maintaining those which most broadly meet the aim of creating extra space for physical distancing.

Updated Plans

Planters which were installed to prevent motor vehicle access, will be removed from the undernoted streets (and repurposed across the city), along with associated signage and road markings:

• Ark Lane at Broompark Drive
• Armadale Street at Craigpark Drive (northbound)
• Craigpark at Craigpark Drive (northbound)
• Craigpark at Onslow Drive (southbound)
• Whitehill Street at Onslow Drive (southbound)

Recently introduced one-way systems and footway widening measures will be retained at the locations below, ensuring more space for walking and wheeling around St Denis' and Alexandra Parade Primaries and helping to ease congestion during the school run:

• Armadale Street (between Duke Street and Roslea Drive) - northbound
• Armadale Street (between Golfhill Drive and Alexandra Parade) - northbound
• Meadowpark Street (between Finlay Drive and Roslea Drive) - southbound
• Meadowpark Street at Ingleby Drive - northbound then westbound.
