Adopted City Plan : 01 August 2003

Glasgow Open Space Map 2010

The Open Space Map has been created as part of the Glasgow City Plan to identify areas subject to Policy ENV 1 – Protected Open Space. The link below takes you to the 2010 update to the first Open Space Map (baselined at 2009). It pinpoints every open space within the City. Ranging in size from hectares to square metres approximately 26,000 individual open spaces have been classified using the extended typology set out in Annex 1 to Planning Advice Note 65.

As this update shows unlike the static Development Policy Principle maps in the City Plan the Glasgow Open Space Map is dynamic and will change several times over the life of the plan. It only uses the individual map elements (polygons) shown by the Ordnance Survey (OS) on its Mastermap base. As a consequence the Open Space Map can only be as accurate as the base map. In a small percentage of cases the OS polygons do not reflect what the plan considers to be the protected open space i.e. an amenity open space and an adjacent private garden shown as one polygon. Alternatively, were several protected open space uses share one polygon, one is identified as primary and the next most significant as secondary. At present the open space map can only show the primary use, except for Parks which are specially identified in order that the outdoor play and sporting facilities they contain can also be highlighted. Sites which are protected but whose boundary can not accurately be indicated are also separately identified.

The audit will be updated at least annually using Mastermap amendments supplied to the Council by the OS. Each alteration will be duly dated in order to show how current the map is and to facilitate the monitoring of change.

Using the Open Space Map - clicking on a map tile or the map legend will open it in a new browser window allowing you to toggle between the legend and any map.
