8Notices of motion:-
(a)by Councillor Gordon Matheson:-

"Council recognises the importance of the Govan and Scotstoun shipyards to Glasgow, in terms of the skilled jobs they sustain and the wider economic and social benefits they bring to the city and the country as a whole.

Council notes that work is currently underway on the first of two new aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy and recognises that this work is vital to the future of the yards and their dedicated workforce.

Council is deeply concerned at reports which suggest that the carrier project may be abandoned as a result of budget cuts imposed by the Conservative and Lib Dem coalition government and calls on the Secretaries of State for Defence and Scotland to end the speculation and confirm that the construction of both carriers will proceed without delay."
(b)by Councillor Billy McAllister:-

"Council welcomes the signing of the information sharing protocol with Strathclyde Police and believes this could help to fight organised crime if used properly.

To support this aim Council agrees not to award any transport contracts to companies without an operators license and to review any contracts already awarded to such companies."
(c)by Councillor James Dornan:-

"Council welcomes the support given by the City's Lord Provost and others to asylum seekers Florence and Precious Mhango and believes that they belong to the great City of Glasgow.

Council therefore resolves to appeal to the Home Secretary not to deport them for fears of their safety and wellbeing and to grant them indefinite leave to stay as is within her powers to do so."
