(a)by Bailie James McNally:-

"While noting that Glasgow City Council was the first local authority in Scotland to introduce a Council Tax freeze in 2005, Council now believes that changed economic circumstances mean that a continuing freeze on Council Tax is not sustainable.

In order to protect vital public services we call upon the Scottish Government to restore the flexibility to councils to set a reasonable level of Council Tax without suffering financial penalty." View Papers
(b)by Councillor James Dornan:-

"Council recognises that many of the poorest people in Glasgow already badly affected due to the economic disaster left by the previous Labour Government will be hardest hit by the brutal cuts about to be implemented by the Liberal and Conservative Coalition.

Council also acknowledges that the Scottish Government, within its limited powers, is working hard to ensure that the poorest in our society will be protected from these cuts but only with the full powers of an Independent country can we truly deal with the mess left behind by Labour and being made worse daily by this incompetent and heartless ConDem alliance." View Papers
(c)by Bailie Dr Nina Baker:-

"Glasgow City Council believes that a national Anti-Slavery Day has the potential to play an important role in raising awareness of human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

Council supports initiatives which raise awareness of and oppose human trafficking.

Council supports efforts made by individuals, schools, businesses, voluntary organisations, and other public bodies to promote the observance of an Anti-Slavery Day each year." View Papers
(d)by Councillor Craig Mackay:-

"Council notes with concern the continuing increase in unemployment in Glasgow, which now has the highest rate of Scotland's 32 local authority areas. While Glasgow's economy had a growth rate significantly ahead of the Scottish average five years ago, that lead has now been wiped out.

Given Glasgow's recent poor record on economic growth Council now recognises the need to focus less on high profile "headline grabbing" projects, and to instead ensure that small and medium sized enterprises within a wide range of sectors are fully supported in order to get Glasgow's economy back on track." View Papers
