(c)By Councillor Danny Alderslowe:-

"Glasgow City Council believes that active travel projects can promote a fundamental shift to modes of transport that improve health, reduce carbon and support local economies. Road building projects encourage car use and draw public funding away from sustainable travel initiatives such as bus services, cycling routes and walking programmes.

Council notes that we eat too much for our current level of physical activity and our physical activity level is lower than ever before. Obesity rates have been rising over the last 10 years both in Scotland and in Greater Glasgow. Nationally and locally, over a quarter of the adults are obese and approximately two-thirds are defined as overweight.

Council supports investment in Smarter Choices, local safety schemes, cycle schemes, and local public transport quality and reliability enhancements." View Papers
(d)By Councillor Gordon Matheson:-

"This Council calls on the new Scottish Government to provide Scotland's cities with the powers and responsibilities which reflect the contribution that they make to the national economy." View Papers
