7Notices of motions:-
(a)By Councillor James Adams:-

"Council congratulates the Royal Marine Corps on its upcoming 350th anniversary in 2014. Since its formation, the Royal Marines has enjoyed strong links with Glasgow and continues to have a permanent presence in the city, through the Glasgow detachment of the Royal Marines Reserve Scotland, which was raised in Glasgow in 1948.

Council wishes to demonstrate its highest respect for the proud history of the Royal Marine Corps and the dedication and sacrifices it continues to make to protect the interests of the United Kingdom. Therefore, Council agrees to award the Freedom of the City of Glasgow to the Royal Marines, to publically acknowledge the regard in which the unit is held and highlight the strong relationship that continues between the Royal Marines and Glasgow."  View Papers
(b)By Councillor Graeme Hendry:-

"Glasgow City Council notes with concern the report of the Royal Incorporation of Architects of Scotland (RIAS) into the George Square redevelopment procurement process.

Council considers that the debacle has damaged the reputation of this Council amongst the architectural community and in wider public perception.

The Council therefore resolves to invite Audit Scotland to audit the Design Competition process followed for the George Square Redevelopment Project including the role played by Elected Members. Furthermore the Council agrees to ask the Chief Executive to draw up specific guidelines to be applied in future Design Competitions to include the role of Elected Members in both agreeing the Procurement Strategy and the subsequent tender and evaluation stages." View Papers
(c)By Councillor Kieran Wild:-

"Council recognises the significant benefits from bee-keeping as honey bees are of immense value to agriculture, horticulture and gardeners and are responsible for the pollination of 1,500 different crops worldwide, including most fruit and vegetables.

Council notes that the bee population is under threat. Since 1992, when the varroa mite arrived in the UK, the bees only survive if they are treated against the infestation. In addition, the loss of habitats and use of persticides have contributed to the decline in bee populations. Hives kept on allotment sites are now important to help bees to survive, since wild honey bees have largely died out. We cannot ignore bee-keeping as this is now essential for preserving our natural environment and sustaining food supplies.

Council supports the completion of a policy to assist bee-keeping on allotments as part of the Year of Natural Scotland 2013." View Papers
(d)By Councillor Pauline McKeever:-

"Council celebrates the life and achievements of Mary Barbour, committed community activist, leading organiser of the 1915 Govan rent strikes and the first woman elected to this chamber. As a Councillor, Mary Barbour campaigned successfully for many improvements in the lives of her fellow citizens, and thereafter spent the rest of her life helping others. Her many accomplishments have had a profound effect on the communities she represented, ensuring that her legacy today be as a powerful role model for the people of Glasgow and in particular for the women of the city.

Therefore, Council welcomes the formation of the Remember Mary Barbour committee, which seeks to erect a lasting monument in honour of her achievements.

Council commits to provide support and guidance to this group where needed, to ensure that a fitting tribute is established to one of the city's most significant but hitherto insufficiently celebrated figures." View Papers
(e)By Councillor Bill Butler:-

"Council notes Partick Thistle's victory by two goals to nil over Falkirk at Falkirk Stadium on Saturday, 20th April; welcomes the result which confirms Partick Thistle's promotion to the SPL as worthy Scottish First Division Champions; congratulates the management, staff, players and supporters of the club whose tremendous effort over the course of the season has allowed the team to regain its proper place amongst Scottish Football's elite; praises the club's commitment to supporter involvement via "The Jags Trust" and the community initiatives undertaken in tandem with the trust; acknowledges Partick Thistle's support over many years for a multicultural and diverse city in its work with organisations such as "Show Racism the Red Card"; and wishes all at Firhill a successful season in 2013/14 as one of Glasgow's representatives in the Scottish Premier League." View Papers
(f)By Councillor Franny Scally:-

"Football is Scotland's national game. Glasgow is home to some of Scotland's largest clubs and has bequeathed many footballing greats to the world.

Council notes, however, that it is increasingly difficult for young people to access football and other sports. Factors such as restrictions on ball games in the street and on green spaces, the high cost of facilities hire and alternative forms of entertainment are all barriers to increased physical activity.

Recognising the need to improve health outcomes through sporting opportunity, and noting that Glasgow will host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Council resolves to investigate innovative ways of extending access to football facilities for young people." View Papers
(g)By Councillor David McDonald:-

"Council notes the growing number of - and demand for - food banks in Glasgow and, while noting with concern the political and economic conditions which have led to their growth, Council commends all those individuals and organisations who have come together to provide food and support for those in crisis.

Council resolves to establish a short-term working group to examine what support and practical assistance can be provided by the Council to the growing network of food banks across the city." View Papers
