11Notice of Motion to Council from Councillor John Mason

"Council reaffirms its commitment to social inclusion in Glasgow. In particular Council believes it is essential that the gap in incomes between rich and poor in the city, which has been widening in recent years, should be reduced.

It is recognised that Council alone cannot reverse this trend but as a major employer it can try to set an example. Therefore, Council resolves that future pay increases for its staff should be weighted towards those at the lower end of the income scale, with lower percentage increases being given to those at the top. Council further resolves to encourage other public sector bodies, including the Scottish Executive and Westminster Government, to adopt this policy."
