9Motion by Councillor John Mason

"Council looks forward enthusiastically to competing for and winning the right to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. However, it is also recognised that there are likely to be strong bids from other countries to host these Games. With the Olympics going to London in 2012 it will be to Scotland and Glasgow's advantage if we are seen as distinct as possible from England in a sporting sense. Therefore, Council calls on Scotland to enter its own separate team in the 2012 Olympics rather than being part of a British or UK team. We believe having a separate team in 2012 would enhance our chances of winning in 2014."
