"Council congratulates Team GB on their magnificent achievement in the Olympic Games in Beijing. In particular we salute the achievement of Scotland's greatest ever OIympian, Chris Hoy. We look forward to seeing Team GB achieve even more success at the 2012 OIympic Games in London and to the many Scots playing their part in that success."

"Glasgow City Council condemns the decision in Gordon Brown's last budget as Chancellor, to abolish the lowest 10p rate of income tax which will disproportionately hit low earners.

Council is concerned about the effect this will have on the hard working citizens of Glasgow who are on the lowest rates of pay. We therefore call on Glasgow City Council to unite against this measure and demand that Gordon Brown restore the 10p tax rate."
(c)by Councillor Alistair Watson

"Council welcomes the commitment by the UK Labour Government to invest in the future of shipbuilding on the Clyde with the placing of the order for the two new aircraft carriers, the HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales."

"Council is delighted to mark the recent granting of the title UNESCO City of Music to the city of Glasgow, which now becomes one of only three cities to hold this accolade. Council pays tribute to the enormous musical talent across every musical genre which is evident in this latest musical success story and recognizes the huge amount of work on behalf of many organizations and individuals which contributed to the granting of this award.

We look forward to further developments in musical education, in creativity, regeneration and access that the status of UNESCO City of Music will open to Glasgow and we celebrate once more the huge and transforming potential that participation in and enjoyment of music can bring."
(e)by Councillor Irfan Rabbani

"Council notes that 17th October 2008 will be recognized as the United Nations day for the Eradication of Poverty, when millions of people around the world will stand up against global poverty.

Council welcomes the campaign to end poverty and, while recognizing that more still needs to be done to tackle the issue, especially child poverty in the UK, welcomes the steps that have been taken since 1997 to address this problem.

Council recognizes that it has a major role to play in addressing poverty in this country and to help reach national targets aimed at halving child poverty by 2010.

As a result, Council resolves to commit itself to do all it can to end child poverty in the city as a contribution both to ending poverty in the UK and across the world, and calls on all Glaswegians to take part in the stand up against poverty event on 17th October."
(f)by Councillor Colin Deans

"Council notes the publication of the assessment by the Scottish Housing Association: Second Stage Transfer Stock Valuation Study by Mazars LLP. Council also notes the announcement of the first SST ballots in the city this year by the Communities and Sport Minister Stewart Maxwell and calls on all parties to the second stage transfer proposals to work together to meet the aspirations of tenants in a fair and reasonable manner."
