Submission Documents: By Councillor Mary Paris:- "The Council deplores the intention of the Scottish Government to replace Prison Visiting Committees with an Advocacy service. Prison Visiting Committees are locally appointed, voluntary, independent bodies which act on behalf of the public to scrutinise conditions in prisons. Their function is entirely different from that of an advocacy service. Council notes that the abolition of Prison Visiting Committees was opposed by all those who responded to the Government's consultation, except the Scottish Prisons Service, and calls on the Scottish Parliament to oppose their abolition and to support instead their strengthening. Council instructs the Chief Executive to send this resolution to all the Glasgow members of the Scottish Parliament." Help Icon
