Successes to Date

The massive infrastructure investment taking place across the city between now and the Games is an enormous boost during these tough economic times.


 

The Games will provide an enormous opportunity to improve Glasgow's economy and help to grow employment in the city.


 

At September 2011:

  • £258.8 million Games related contracts awarded via the Business Portal
  • Glasgow-based companies won 32% of contracts awarded through the Portal
  • Contractors on Games-related projects committed to providing 339 New Entrant Trainee places
  • 2,026 young people have started Commonwealth Apprenticeships
  • 57 previously-unemployed, young people secured employment through the Commonwealth Jobs Fund
  • The M74 completion project delivered ahead of schedule and under budget with the road opening in June 2011
  • The city successfully securing major international events e.g. the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the 2015 International Paralympic Committee, the European Swimming Championships and the British Swimming Championships in 2014
