Freewheel North

A number of projects are in place to promote cycling in the city, as part of our plans for a more Active Glasgow in the run up to Glasgow 2014. These include the mountain biking course at Cathkin Braes, CONNECT 2 and a series of new segregated cycling lanes. Support is also being provided at a local level to a number of community projects.

Freewheel North is a cycling development charity that operates a number of cycling initiatives. With the help of the council, it has recently set up a cycling centre on Glasgow Green for people with disabilities.

The centre’s fleet of adapted bikes such as hand cranks, side-by-side tandems, rickshaws and tag-alongs open up the possibility of cycling and exercise at Glasgow Green to people and with a range of disabilities.

Norman Armstong, Freewheel North Project Manger explained: ‘We’re trying to make Glasgow into a healthier more active cycling city through helping people with disabilities, helping youth groups and individuals – anyone who wants to cycle really. We’re trying to get Glasgow to an active travel city rather than car dependent.”
