Read the March 2012 newsletter for residents in the East End of Glasgow and others interested in the work underway in preparation for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.  This 3rd edition provides you with an update on some projects progress you will see in 2012 i.e. Dalmarnock Road re-opening, the completion of the East End Regeneration Route, houses starting to appear on the Athletes’ Village site and the opening of the Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Findings from latest consultation events now available


In early Spring 2011, local Consultation events looking at the progress being made on the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, its transport arrangements and environmental commitments, as well as plans for the legacy to be left by the Games, took place at five centres across the city between the 9 February – 17 March.

 

The events were open to members of the public and community groups. Councillor Archie Graham, Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow City Council, hosted the events. The findings from these events are now available. More...

Consultation events looking at the progress being made on the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, its transport arrangements and environmental commitments, as well as plans for the legacy to be left by the Games, took place at five centres across the city between
9 February - 17 March.

Legacy Progress Report on Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games


Glasgow City Council published its first annual Legacy Progress Report for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in January 2011.  The report provides an overview of the progress made towards achieving our legacy vision, including an Action Plan which sets out the activity the council and partners will undertake between now and March 2012. Findings from June 2010 consultation events now available

In June 2010, the council held five local events asking the public and community groups for their response to the question: ‘The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games - what does it mean for you?’ The events were the most recent element of the council’s community engagement strategy for the Games, informing the people of Glasgow about progress on Games venues / facilities, legacy ambitions and showing communities how they can become more involved. Glasgow 2014 Legacy Framework Launch


Glasgow's 2014 Legacy Framework was officially launched by Councillor Steven Purcell, former Leader of Glasgow City Council, at the 12th State of the City Economy Conference on 20 November in the Radisson Hotel, Glasgow.  Councillor Purcell told the audience of public, private and third sector representatives that the Framework would form the basis of planning for lasting benefits from the 2014 Games.  More information on the framework is available here.


Launch event - Commonwealth Games Business Portal


On 1st October 2009, Councillor Steven Purcell, former Leader of Glasgow City Council, and John Scott, Chief Executive of Glasgow 2014 Ltd, launched the Commonwealth Games Business Portal at an event in Glasgow City Chambers in front of an audience from the Scottish business community.

A games legacy for Glasgow: a catalyst for social change.

 

On 5th October 2009, the council and the Glasgow Centre for Population Health hosted a seminar to consider the potential legacy benefits that Glasgow and its people could gain from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

 

Bruce Dewar, Chief Executive Officer of 2010 Legacies Now, described the sustainable legacy plans for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and how these are focused on being a catalyst for social change in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

 

Councillor Steven Purcell, former Leader of Glasgow City Council, informed delegates of our vision for a lasting people legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
