Glasgow is one of Europe's most dynamic sporting and cultural capitals.

Sport is an integral part of Glasgow’s culture, reflected in the city’s designation as a UK National City of Sport 1996-99 and its reign as European Capital of Sport in 2003

    • Fresh'n'Lo Great Scottish Run - the largest participation sports event in Scotland and the third biggest race of its type in the UK with more than 19,000 entries in 2005
    • Norwich Union International held at Scotstoun Stadium and featured  the best athletes from Great Britain, USA and Russia
    • UEFA Champions League Cup Final in May 2003 - watched by an estimated 400 million people world-wide
    • Special Olympics National Summer Games took place in 2005 attracting an estimated 1500 athletes with learning disabilities.  Sports will include athletics, sailing, golf, equestrian, swimming and Judo.
