Glasgow crowned Curry Capital of Scotland but Bradford clinches the British title
Glasgow has been crowned Scotland’s Curry Capital after a highly-praised campaign, with Bradford narrowly clinching the British title for 2011.
The judges were very impressed by the commitment of the council’s bid led by the Public Relations and Marketing team, in the Chief Executive’s Office and their restaurant team of
- Slumdog
- Kama Sutra
- Neelim
- KoolBa
Praise was given once again for the innovative design of our bid created by the council’s graphics designer Brian Armstrong.
Fundraising
They particularly commended the restaurants fundraising contribution to The Curry Tree Charitable Fund, making our city the most generous Curry Capital competitor, in Britain for a second year.
Agnes Brisbane, the lead co-ordinator said: “We are obviously gutted but we are pleased the title has gone to a city with the same passion and enthusiasm as ours. I can’t thank the four restaurants enough for their tremendous support and generosity as part of team Glasgow. And thanks to everyone, council staff and the public, who voted so vigorously for Glasgow to win.
Agnes added: “We may have lost this time round but we are not defeated and we are even more determined to bring back the title to Glasgow next year.”
Lord Provost
Lord Provost Bob Winter said: "The Curry Capital of Britain competition is a great opportunity for towns and cities across the country to celebrate our diverse culture and our shared love of curry.
"We, of course, extend our congratulations to Bradford. Glasgow has greatly enjoyed its many triumphs and we hope they enjoy their success this year.
"But I must also pay tribute to our four nominated restaurants. Their culinary techniques, innovative dishes and outstanding service guarantees Glasgow remains an all-time curry great."
