Got an idea for a new product? Or a new logo or design?  While it remains simply an idea you have no protection in law.

However, once you have committed your idea to paper (or some other permanent  format) it can be protected and can then be regarded as your intellectual property.

There are four main types of intellectual property:

  • Patents protect new technology; new inventions, improved products or processes.  Read more about Patents

  • Trade Marks protect words, logos and certain other signs which differentiate the products or services of one trader from those of another.  Read more about Trade Marks

  • Registered Designs protect the aesthetic appearance of the whole or part of a product.  Read more about Registered Designs

  • Copyright protects literary works, dramatic works, musical works, artistic works, sound recordings, films and broadcasts.   Read more about Copyright
