1.23 Glasgow currently has 43 Local Plans dealing with parts of the City in a variety of detail and scale. The majority were adopted at various dates over the last 20 years, the most recent being the Greater Easterhouse Local Plan in March 1998. This arrangement does not allow the Council to present its vision for the future of the City or provide the context for proposals affecting public and private sector agencies and communities. In short, the system did not meet the City's needs for the new millennium. The Council therefore determined that in order to provide a development vision for the next 20 years and the context for the continued regeneration of the City, the existing 43 Local Plans should be replaced by a single City-wide Plan.
1.24 The Plan is written to conform with national planning policy guidance and advice and to complement the more strategic policies and proposals of the Joint Structure Plan. It has also been prepared in the context of other strategic documents prepared by the Council, or by the Council in partnership with other organisations, principally Planning for Development (1997), Creating Tomorrow's Glasgow - The Glasgow Alliance Strategy (March 1999) and Glasgow's Renewed Prosperity - a Joint Economic Strategy for Glasgow (1999).
