Adopted City Plan : 01 August 2003

City Plan - Part 1 - Development Strategy - Infrastructure - Flooding

Context

6.66 All water courses and water bodies are inter-related. Surface water drainage and flood prevention issues are, therefore, complex. Action in one authority’s area can affect both existing developments and development potential in other authorities’ areas. In 1984, the Carts river system flooded, severely affecting the southern part of the City. In 1994, significant flooding occurred when the floodwater from the River Kelvin flowed through disused railway tunnels to affect buildings at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. Certain low-lying land adjacent to the Kelvin and the White Cart was also affected.
