Adopted City Plan : 01 August 2003

City Plan - Part 1 - Development Strategy - Jobs

Strategic Business And Industrial Sites Programme

5.28 Both the Council and Scottish Enterprise Glasgow recognise that the shortage of good quality sites and modern industrial and business premises has constrained the growth of indigenous companies and presented a barrier to the attraction of new investment from outwith the City. In order to address this shortage of suitable sites and premises, the Council and Scottish Enterprise Glasgow initiated the Strategic Business and Industrial Sites Programme. This joint Programme aims to ensure the provision of fully serviced industrial and business sites and, in partnership with the private sector, the provision of good quality, well located industrial and business floorspace.

5.29 The first phase of the programme comprised seven sites:

Cambuslang Investment Park;

Cardonald Park;

Robroyston Business Park;

College Business Park;

Pacific Quay;

Glasgow Business Park; and

West of Scotland Science Park.

5.30 Following substantial public and private sector investment in infrastructure and site preparation, many of the Phase 1 sites are now available for development. The Programme has been extremely successful and has raised the City’s profile as a industrial and business location. These sites have made a major contribution to the improving levels of industrial and business activity experienced in recent years, demonstrating that where the public agencies can provide land that is serviced and available for development, it will attract private sector investment. It is important that the full potential of these sites is delivered.

The City Council, in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, will complete Phase 1 of the Strategic Business and Industrial Sites Programme.

5.31 There is a need to maintain the momentum generated by the Phase 1 sites and ensure a continued supply of good quality serviced industrial/business sites. In order to achieve this, a second phase of strategic sites has been identified and will be reserved for economic development uses unless initial site investigations suggest that such development would not be viable.

The City Council has identified the following sites as the second phase of what will be a rolling programme of strategic sites:

Queenslie;

Gallowgate, incorporating College Business Park and Shuttle Street;

Dalmarnock; and

Robroyston (South).
