4.31 The Joint Structure Plan has identified a potential shortfall in housing land supply in the period beyond 2006. In these circumstances, it is acknowledged that there is a need to consider longer-term development opportunities. While the physical and economic regeneration promoted by the City Plan should result in a greater proportion of Glasgows upper-market demand being met from brownfield sites, it will be important to have sufficient development opportunities available to meet future demand. Work on Comprehensive Planning Studies of selected greenfield locations will commence during 2001. These studies will provide an indication of the Citys capacity to respond to deficits in the land supply identified through a strategic review of housing land supply and demand. Any proposals to identify additional land supply in these locations prior to, and post, 2006, would be subject to agreement by the Structure Plan Joint Committee. It is through the Comprehensive Planning Study process that additional sites will be found to meet the Joint Structure Plan requirements for housing for the period up to, and beyond, 2006.
Comprehensive Planning Studies will be initiated by the City Council, during 2001, to determine the environmental capacity and the potential for development of the following areas:
Summerston/Balmore
Robroyston/Millerston
Easterhouse/Gartloch
Broomhouse/Baillieston
Castlemilk/Carmunnock
Parkhouse/Deaconsbank
