Adopted City Plan : 01 August 2003

City Plan - Part 1 - Development Strategy - River

Agenda For Change - Area 3

Pacific Quay/SECC

Area Characteristics

This area has been the focus for multi-agency investment in the City and includes the principle visitor/tourist destinations on the River Clyde - the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) and Pacific Quay. With the completion of the Clyde Auditorium, a landmark building in the City, the SECC has consolidated its position as one of the UK’s leading conference and exhibition venues.

At Pacific Quay, the Glasgow Science Centre, Imax Theatre and Millennium Tower flagship Lottery Projects provide Glasgow and the Clyde Corridor with some of its most distinctive landmark buildings. The Science Centre and Imax Theatre, the only one in Scotland, are the first titanium clad structures in the UK and the Millennium Tower is the only 360 degree rotating tower in the world. Pacific Quay also includes a Business Park and is the preferred site for the re-location of BBC Scotland headquarters.

The area also includes the A-Listed Govan Graving Docks which, even in their current condition, represent a unique development opportunity of national significance. A masterplan for a mixed development of this area is being prepared by the site owners. Phase 1 will take the form of a Conservation Plan for the site and its environs and is being prepared in collaboration with Scottish Enterprise, Historic Scotland and Govan Initiative.
