9.28 The Clyde’s role as a unifying force within the City will be reinforced by common approaches to infrastructure and urban design, achieved through the development of the Linear Park. While recognising the need to emphasise this unifying role, analysis of the River Corridor supports the division of the Clyde into a series of distinct areas, defined by shared physical characteristics or historic/existing cross-river links. The following section explores the key planning objectives for these areas before examining each in more detail and establishing an Agenda for Change involving aims for Accessibility and Transportation, The Water, Urban Design and the Environment and Tourism and Leisure. The key objectives include sustainable economic regeneration, improved accessibility to and along the River and the integration of the River with the City’s urban fabric. More detailed examination of these areas, to establish appropriate responses to their individual economic, social and physical challenges, will be undertaken.
The City Council will undertake a detailed examination of the following areas:
Shieldhall/The North Bank
Partick/Govan
Pacific Quay/SECC
Finnieston/Springfield
Tradeston/Broomielaw
St. Enoch/Laurieston
Gorbals/Inner East End
Cambuslang Investment Park/Carmyle
9.29 Pacific Quay/SECC and Partick/Govan will be targeted for the early production of Local Development Strategies. The priority for the preparation of the remaining Local Development Strategies will be influenced by changing needs, market pressures and development opportunities.
