The areas designated ‘GREENSPACE’ are spread throughout the City, contribute to the City’s ‘Greenspace Network’ and make an important contribution to the health and wellbeing of the community. The term ‘greenspace’ is multi-functional and includes allotments, cemeteries, local nature reserves, wildlife sites, water courses, woodlands, lochs, river valleys, other linear spaces (such as the Canal and national cycle network), sport and recreational uses (such as public parks, golf courses, playing fields, tennis courts, bowling greens and sports grounds), ornamental gardens, amenity open spaces, areas of landscape importance and flood attenuation areas. There is a presumption in favour of retaining greenspace, whether in public or private ownership. See policy DEV 2 for local areas of amenity greenspace and policy ENV 2 for Development Related to Greenspace.
