Adopted City Plan : 01 August 2003

City Plan - Part 2 - Development Policies - Section 5 - Shopping and Commercial

SC 11 Provision of Transport Hire Vehicle Stances in Shopping and Commercial Leisure Development

CONTEXT AND JUSTIFICATION

To provide for access to shopping (food and non-food) and commercial leisure facilities for those who do not own or have access to a private car, or choose not to drive to shops and other facilities, or use other forms of public transport, stances are required for taxis and private hire vehicles within food store developments, major new shopping centres and commercial leisure complexes. These should be designed as an integral component of the scheme and be located in close proximity to the building’s main entrance.

POLICY

Food store developments over 2,000m2, major new shopping centres and major commercial leisure complexes should include a licensed taxi stance and/or an appropriate facility for the pick up of passengers by licensed private hire vehicles. In either case, the facility should be located as close as possible to the building’s main entrance/exit.
