Temporary landscaping of a site most commonly provides public greenspace for locals to use, however there are a range of temporary uses for sites, some may not be for public access but improve the area visually and environmentally, for example a site used for tree planting.
Below is a list of potential use options for a temporary site.
- Creating temporary growing spaces
- Creating city market gardens.
- Interim sustainable urban drainage sites.
- Tree planting as part of carbon offsetting, biodiversity or other initiatives.
- Public art space.
- Non organic waste recycling schemes.
- Growing short rotation energy crops.
- Installing approved landscape design prior to development.
- Child's play area.
- Wildflower meadows
- Levelling and turfing over the site with continued maintenance.
These are just some examples of the kinds of landscaping projects that can make better use of the land in currently vacant sites.
