Geotechnical and Land Remediation

 

Provides a central corporate service across the Council in relation to effective delivery of geotechnical and environmental services with regard to:

  • ground conditions
  • environmental policy


The group members seek to apply their skills in a practical and innovative way in relation to Development & Regeneration Service priorities and Council objectives.  Range of current activities:

  • carry out comprehensive ground investigations and reporting on a variety of projects in relation to new build.

  •  Design and Project management of Geotechnical processes such as foundations, mining consolidation, and vibro stone columns.

  • Progression of the Councils duties under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, including implementation of the requirements of the Council’s Contaminated Land Strategy.

  • Development of a comprehensive geotechnical database. This includes transfer of data to digital storage and exploring potential partnership with the British geological Survey with particular emphasis on viewing and manipulating data, possibly using 3D geological modelling.  Access to this database, comprising in excess of 100,000 borehole records, can be made available, with a service charge made for commercial purposes, by contacting geotechnical@drs.glasgow.gov.uk


Current Projects

  • Commonwealth games projects – Tollcross Aquatic Centre, Scotstoun Squash Courts;
  • Land Remediation including the Commonwealth Games Athletes Village Site;
  • Various new build projects;
  • Coal Authority Disclosure Project; and
  • Input to the various Clyde Gateway projects
