Transport Policy and Planning are part of the Transport and Environment Division of Development and Regeneration Services.

Transportation Policy

  • Development of Transport Policy for Glasgow City Council and its inclusion in Council Strategies and the Plans – specifically the Local Transport Strategy and the City Plan.

  • Preparation of Glasgow City Council input and response to Transport Strategies prepared by other agencies including:
    • National Transport Strategy
    • Regional Transport Strategies
    • Rail Utilisation Strategies
    • National Planning Framework
    • Strategic Development Plan
  • Traffic monitoring and preparation of the Council’s Road Traffic Reduction Report as required by the Road Traffic Reduction Act 1997

 

Transport Planning 

  • Specifying the transport infrastructure required for mobility and accessibility, including all forms of public transport, road based transport and walking and cycling

  • Assessing mobility and accessibility in relation to both existing and proposed development and the measures required to ensure appropriate transport provision

  • Ensuring transport provision compliments the Council’s sustainability agenda, including journeys to schools and promoting/assessing green travel plans, the strategic approach to walking, cycling and public transport

  • Preparation  of Glasgow City Council input and response to Transport Plans prepared by other agencies including:
    • STPR
    • WSCPTDS
    • Glasgow Airport Surface Access Strategy
