Local Housing Strategy 2009-14

Work is underway to produce the Council’s next Local Housing Strategy 2009 – 2014.  Over the coming months this page will be updated as research and other relevant activity is completed.  Our research will cover a wide range of topics including housing needs assessment and housing market analyses.  Consultation with key stakeholders through the Joint Stakeholders Working Group will form a key part of strategy development.

Glasgow Social Housing Demand Review 2007

Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government agreed at the stock transfer in 2003 that a review of the outlook of demand in the social rented sector in the city should be carried out every three years.

These reviews are required in order to ensure that the investment plans of the social housing providers in the city will fully meet future housing needs while also making the most of opportunities to improve the quality and suitability of the social housing stock through new building, improvement and demolition.  The first review was completed in 2004 and can be accessed below.

In May 2007 Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government jointly commissioned Tribal Consulting to carry out a further review of citywide demand for social rented housing, with an up-to-date projection to 2012 and 2015 and a consideration of the outlook to 2019.  The Review was overseen by the Glasgow Social Housing Demand Review Steering Group.  Tribal's report is being considered by the Council's  Development and Regeneration Services Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee on 3rd June 2008 for Elected Members to review.

Steering Group Papers Used in Review

Development and Regeneration Services provided two technical papers to support the consultant's work.  These are a projection of households by tenure based on trends in 1991-2001 and 2001-05 and an updated projection of the social housing stock taking account of the latest information on providers' plans and on the outlook for resources.

Consultation Event

Consultation events were held at the beginning of the Review on Monday 25th June and Thursday 5th July 2007 which were a great success with 129 people attending over the two meetings.  Thank you all for coming and contributing to the discussion.
