Land and property information
The Scottish Land Information Service (ScotLIS) is intended to provide a shop window which offers access to a wide range of information about land and property in Scotland. The concept evolved in the early 1990's from an initiative called "Domesday 2000", led by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which had the aim of producing a national land information service for the new millennium.
A demonstration version of the proposed service was created in 1996 to raise awareness and to encourage interest. At the same time a study was carried out to evaluate the business case for the service. Following this, a decision was taken to run a pilot of the service for a year with Glasgow being chosen as the most appropriate area. Initial contributors to the pilot service are Registers of Scotland, Glasgow City Council and the British Geological Survey.
