Taxi Licensing

 

 

Before applying for a Taxi Licence applicants should consult the Licensing Section to ensure the vehicle is of an approved type.  Please read the guidance notes before lodging your application for a Taxi Licence.  *Please see below for an amendment to the Guidance Notes in respect of the issue of Certificates of Compliance.

 

If the application is for the Grant of a Licence it must be accompanied by the registration document for the vehicle concerned.  If the vehicle has yet to be purchased a declaration must be completed (see link below).

 

If applying for a Renewal, the minimum period is two years.

Fees for lodging an application are as follows:

 

Valid For                                     Fee

 

1 year/temporary                         £158

2 years                                       £283

3 years                                       £379

 

Payment can be made by cash, cheque (in the applicant's name only) or postal order.

 

These fees are non-refundable.  A temporary licence may be issued for a period not exceeding 6 weeks.

 

Applications should be lodged at the Licensing Section.

 

To enable you to apply for a Licence, the application forms below can be downloaded, completed and returned with the appropriate fee to the Licensing Section.

* Amendment to the Guidance Notes, with effect from 24 February 2006:  It should be noted that at the time of the vehicle passing inspection a Certificate of Exemption can, on application, be issued by the Inspection Centre, on payment of the fee of £5.00, provided that there is in force an appropriate taxi/private hire car licence for the vehicle concerned.
