General Information on Glasgow's Fish Market
The market is the only inland Fish Market in Scotland and serves a customer base which extends from Inverness to the Borders.
There are over 100 people directly employed in the fish market business. There are 18 tenant companies. Between 1993 and 1995, in order to meet the European community Directive, the market was extensively refurbished. As a result of this refurbishment Glasgow is now one of the best equipped fish markets in Europe, complying with all relevant hygiene regulations.
- Location:
The market is located less than 1km from Junction 14 of the M8 Motorway.
- Layout:
The Fish Market is a self contained building with 40 inward facing sales units on each side of a buyers walk.
The sales units are 10 ft (3.05m) wide and 20ft (6.10m) deep. There are separate offices on the first floor level.
The rear entrances of the sales units are fitted with sliding doors to allow loading and unloading and delivery of produce.
- Facilities:
There is an enclosed cutting room equipped with sinks, wash hand basins and cutting tables for the use of tenants engaged in the preparation and filleting of the fish
- Opening Times:
The market is open from Tues to Sat and commences inter tenant trading at 0430am with sales to retailers from 0600am.
