Heritage and Design
"Enabling todays outstanding architecture and urban design to create tomorrow's conservation areas."
Regeneration Through Design
The Heritage and Design team, part of the Design and Environment Group, is the Council's specialist resource on a wide range of design issues providing advice, devising policy and delivering projects.
These include policies for the City Plan, strategies for Public Art, Buildings at Risk Strategy, Conservation and Urban Design and appraisals of Glasgow's conservation areas.
From securing the best design quality in new development to ensuring the careful restoration of the city's historic buildings, we deliver an important element of the Council's service and contribute to the ongoing regeneration of Glasgow.
We are responsible for many projects. Notably delivering the Council's Lighting Strategy, organising Glasgow's Christmas and winter lighting displays as well as the display of banners during the summer months.
Advice is available to residents, building owners and others in relation to design matters and conservation issues.
Whether it's the replacement of a window on a listed building or the master planning of a whole area, the design skills within the team add value to the planning and development process at every level and help maintain Glasgow's position as a centre for design excellence.
This is reflected in the high number of national awards achieved by building projects in Glasgow - more than any authority outside London.
