Improving Services for Private Sector Landlords

Private Sector Landlord Council Tax Initiatives

Landlords with Multiple Properties

A current review of processes in Glasgow City Council’s Council Tax department has identified an opportunity to improve our service for Private Landlords who manage a large number of properties.

Our current scheme encourages joint working between Glasgow City Council and Private Landlords who are responsible for 50 plus properties in order to establish a mutually beneficial arrangement.

This arrangement provides for the electronic transfer of information relating to changes of tenancy and unoccupied periods by email. This successfully reduces administration, and ensures the accurate and efficient update of the Council Tax accounts for properties under your control.

If you are responsible for the management of 50 plus properties and are interested in this scheme please register you interest by letter or email in the first instance to Mary Burns and Danielle Ball.

Online Change of Occupier Facility

The development of our online Change of Occupier Form for Private Landlords provides a more efficient and cost effective method of advising the Council Tax Department of changes of tenancy and unoccupied periods.

This successfully reduces administration, and ensures the accurate and efficient update of the Council Tax accounts for properties under your control.

To fully benefit from the use of this form, we recommend that the form be completed within a week of you becoming aware of a change in occupancy, this will allow us to update the account and award any appropriate empty property relief, reducing the amount of correspondence between yourselves and the Council Tax Department.

The online form should be completed when you become aware of the following;

  • Persons move out of a property and the property has become empty
  • Persons move in to an empty property and the property is now occupied
  • Persons move out and person move in to a property and there is a small or no vacant period

On completion of the online form you will receive a unique reference number, ensuring that you have a receipt for the  form completed.
