It's time to clear the air

Glasgow City Council's campaign to reduce emissions from vehicles.

Roadside Exhaust Emission Testing

Glasgow City Council are undertaking roadside vehicle emission checks in an effort to reduce pollution from road traffic.

What will the check involve?

All vehicles which are stopped will be subject to an initial test.  If your vehicle passes this check you will be advised of this and be on your way in minutes.

What happens if the vehicle fails the test?

If your vehicle is emitting pollutants above the legal standard it will fail the test.  Drivers of vehicles which fail the test when stopped at the roadside will be issued with a Fixed Penalty Ticket for £60 (increasing to £90 if not paid within 28 days)

If your vehicle fails you are strongly advised to have the vehicle suitably repaired, as under certain circumstances the Local Authority may consider waiving this fixed penalty.

Idling Vehicles

Glasgow City Council are also enforcing new powers to deal with idling vehicles.

If you idle your vehicle unnecessarily while stopped you could be faced with a £20 fixed penalty ticket.
