Food businesses require to be operated to a minimum legal standard.

 

Food businesses require to be operated to a minimum legal standard. and all food requires to meet compositional, hygiene and labelling standards.  Complaints about food businesses or food are welcomed and all are investigated.

 

How to make a complaint about Food or a Food Business

 

To enable proper investigation it would be helpful if you could tell us:

 

  • name of the food business
  • address
  • type of food
  • date and time you bought the food or visited the premises
  • details of any witnesses
  • brief details of the incident or complaint
  • your name, address and daytime telephone number

 

Our response to your complaint

 

  • we will contact you immediately on receipt of your complaint and advise you what we intend to do and how long it may take
  • we will arrange to uplift the food if it is inconvenient for you to bring it to this office
  • where it is necessary to have food formally examined or analysed this can take some time and our response may be delayed
  • in some cases the complaint has to be referred to another Local Authority and this also takes time.  Correspondence with the manufacturer can also slow down the process
  • the Officer dealing with the complaint will give you his/her name and telephone number to ensure that you can keep in touch
  • your confidentiality will be respected and your name, etc will not be released unless you give explicit consent
 
Action

 

The action we take depends on a variety of factors, however, our primary aim is to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
 
We are not able to advise on whether compensation may be appropriate as this is a civil matter. Should you wish to pursue a civil course of action then it is recommended that you seek legal advice.
