Last week of hit exhibition of photos from Glasgow’s past

A collection of outstanding photographs from Glasgow’s past currently on show at the city’s Mitchell Library continues to be a tremendous success, with more than 18,000 people having seen the exhibition. The exhibition closes on Sunday 26 February.


The exhibition, Picture This - 50 years of classic Glasgow press photography, features some of the most memorable photographs from the archives of The Herald and Evening Times between 1930 - 1980.

 

The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times have over six million press photographs collected over the span of the 20th Century. The newspapers collaborated with the Mitchell Library to preserve this unique collection, based in the library since 2004.

 

The latest exhibition features a brand new selection of photographs covering all aspects of life in Glasgow and Scotland, from sport, showbusiness and the shipyards to Christmases past and the city’s dancehalls. More than 20,000 people are expected to have seen the exhibition by the end of its run.
