The first of these is the fourth and final stage of a four-year project to develop the public realm around the Ingram Street / Merchant City area. The sites involved are Garth Street, Baird Hall, Glassford Street, Virginia Street, West Regent Street, Argyle Street at Cadzow Street and St Vincent Street at India Street.
The development of the public realm in this part of Glasgow will extend the commercial core of the city centre and Merchant City and cement Ingram Street’s reputation as Glasgow’s finest location of exclusive shops.
The second plan is the development of the Bothwell Plaza in Bothwell Street, a project that once constructed, will feature a four star hotel, office block, three star hotel, conference centre and leisure facilities.
Councillor George Ryan, Executive Member for Development and Regeneration Services at Glasgow City Council, said: "The decisions taken today can be only be good news for Glasgow. The completion of the public realm project around Ingram Street and the Merchant City will make the area an even more attractive place to live, work, visit and shop. The creation of the stunning Bothwell Plaza development will bring world-class office and conference space to Glasgow, meet the ever-growing demand for hotel rooms and places the city even higher up the international destination table."
