Celebrities Support Lord Provost's Charity Burns Supper

A star- studded guest list promises to ensure an evening of great entertainment at one of the world’s largest Burns Suppers at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel on Friday January 25.

The cream of Scotland’s talent, including comedienne Karen Dunbar, television presenter Kaye Adams and musician and broadcaster Jimmie Macgregor will take centre stage at the event guaranteeing a memorable evening for the Lord Provost’s 860 guests.

Four charities will benefit. They are: the Lord Provost’s Malawi Fund, Tak Tent Cancer Support, Aberlour Child Care Trust and Calum’s Cabin.

Lord Provost Bob Winter said: "I am delighted to be hosting such a spectacular event and I know my guests will dig deep to support the deserving causes this huge charity evening supports.

"Glasgow is extremely proud of its association with the national bard. Indeed, the Mitchell Library boasts the world’s biggest collection of Burns manuscripts and memorabilia. Therefore it is entirely fitting that the proceeds of this evening, commemorating a renowned artist whose work was synonymous with his sense of humanity, will go to help the needy at home and abroad."

Last year’s Burns Supper raised more than £70,000 for the Lord Provost’s Malawi Fund and the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.

Kaye Adams will chair the proceedings. Karen Dunbar will recite Tam O’Shanter. Jimmie Macgregor will give the Immortal Memory. Broadcaster, Paul Coia will give the Toast to the Lassies with the Reply from the Lassies being given by award winning entertainer and business coach Terry Neason.

Lawrence Robb and Diana Brown, pupils from the Musical Theatre Course at Knightswood Secondary School will also be performing on the night. Lawrence will address the haggis and Diana will give two recitations.

Entertainer Dean Park will host the charity auction and raffle.

John Shirreffs accompanied by Sheila Hall, at the close of the evening, will sing the traditional Auld Lang Syne. In demand during the Burns season, John has sung for his supper throughout Europe, including in Glasgow’s twin city of Nurnberg.
