Lord Provost's Charity Burns Supper raises £87,000

 

Guests at Glasgow Lord Provost’s Burns Supper dug deep raising £87,000 for good causes.



 

The cream of Scotland’s talent, including Scots Makar, Liz Lochhead and playwright, producer and actor David Maclennan, co-founder of the 7:84 Scotland Theatre, and also famous for A Play, a Pie and a Pint, participated giving the Reply and the Toast from the Lassies respectively.

 

 

Lord Provost Bob Winter said: “I am thrilled that despite the economic difficulties, my guests generosity means we have raised even more money than last year. I would also like to reassure them that this money goes to deserving causes at home and abroad.”

 

 

Glaswegian artist Gerard Burns painting ‘A walk through trees in winter’ raised £2,800 and John Damari’s  oil on canvas ‘ Morag’s wee croft looking towards Ben More’ realised £1,800.

 

 

Dinner in the Lord Provost’s Dining Room for up to 12 guests was a very popular auction prize. Four separate bids were made raising a total of 8,800 pounds.

 

 

The charities that will benefit are: The Lord Provost’s Malawi Fund, The Lord Provost’s Children’s Fund and ReSurge Africa.

 

 

Last year’s Burns Supper raised £78,000 for the Lord Provost’s Malawi Fund, the Lord Provost’s Children’s Fund, Starter Packs and Pakistan Flood Relief
