An email newsletter is published quarterly with the aim of sharing information, enhancing current links and sparking new opportunities in the arts and inclusion sector.  Newsletters feature updates, information about training and resources and a themed section with interview.  If you would like to receive the arts and inclusion email newsletter please email your request to arts.development@csglasgow.org

 

 

CULTURAL PATHFINDER FOR OLDER PEOPLE:  EVENTS

 

Culture and Sport Glasgow, Arts Development is currently carrying out a Pathfinder project funded by the Scottish Government.  The project aims to break down barriers to participation in the arts for the most excluded older people over 60 and initiate an ongoing dialogue between older people and the arts in Glasgow.

 

A range of exciting ideas are really taking shape now, including an intergenerational drama project in the south of Glasgow, an outdoor big band experience in the west, the chance to get involved in the Big Draw and a writing project looking at what it means to grow older in Glasgow.

ENCOURAGE

 

Encourage is an arts programme for older people in Glasgow.  The project is a partnership between Strathclyde Senior Institute, Culture and Sport Glasgow- Arts Development and various arts organisations in Glasgow.  Encourage helps older people to access and engage in arts activities through a mixture of workshops and performances.  For more information and to view the Encourage programme please visit the website for Encourage

 

 

GAMELAN WORKSHOP SESSIONS

 

Gamelan is an orchestra of traditional Javanese instrument made from bronze and iron.  The instruments are highly ornate but also very accessible.  There is a Wednesday workshop programme available for adults with learning disabilities who live in Glasgow.  Sessions are carefully tailored to the needs of the individual.  For more information or to register interest please contact the Arts Development Officer for Social Inclusion.  Phone:  0141 287 9845.  Email: kirsty.white@csglasgow.org

 

                              Gamelan

 

PROJECT ABILITY @ TRAMWAY

 

An arts initiative for primary school-aged children with communication disorders who attend school in Glasgow.  The focus is on self-expression, social interaction, creativity and fun.  This activity will soon relaunch as Project Ability @ Tramway.  There will be three blocks of eight weeks with sessions beginning in September.

CREATIVE INTERVENTIONS IN HEALTH

 

Creative Interventions is a new collaborative project in Glasgow's East End, which aims to demonstrate the positive impact that visual arts can have upon health and well being.  The project works with professional artists and local community organisations on pilot projects using a variety of media including drawing and painting, digital photography, textiles, video and printmaking.

 

 

Creative Interventions was initiated by Arts in Hospitals and Greater Glasgow NHS Health Promotion.  It is core-funded by the Scottish Arts Council, Glasgow City Council and supported by John Wheatley College

DEMENTIA AUTHORS

 

In Our Own Words, a creative writing project in Glasgow, designed by writer-in-residence Anthea McKinlay.  Enabled people with dementia, who are living in Glasgow City Council residential care homes, to create writing, to have their voices heard and to be recognised as authors in their own right.
