VISUAL ART

Trongate 103

This summer will see the construction work begin on a major facility for the visual arts in Glasgow - Trongate 103.

TRONGATE 103

A centre for the arts and creativity

Opening September 2009

September 2009 saw the opening of a brand new arts resource for the City of Glasgow.  Housed over six stories in a former Edwardian warehouse on Trongate, Trongate 103 is the new home for eight Glasgow based creative organisations: including Street Level Photoworks, Project Ability, Glasgow Print Studio, Transmission Gallery, Sharmanka, Glasgow Independent Studio and Project Room, Glasgow Media Access Centre (GMAC), and the Russian Cultural Centre & Cafe Cossachock.

Trongate 103 houses two floors of exhibition spaces and a further four floors of artists production facilities.  The production facilities support artists working in a wide range of media including printmaking, photography, digital media, film, video, kinetic sculpture, ceramics and painting.  As well as supporting professional artists, Trongate 103 offers opportunities to the public to make and learn about art, through a varied programme of evening classes, workshops and talks.

INTERMEDIA

Intermedia is a scheme run by Culture and Sport Glasgow, which provides a gallery space independent of all other arts organisations in the city.  Intermedia's last incarnation in King Street ended in December 2005 due to the ongoing capital development of arts premises there.  Although now based in the CCA, Intermedia retains its independence and autonomy.

Applications are received from a wide variety of individuals and groups, from which a programme of exhibitions is selected by a panel of artists/arts professionals based on criteria of quality of work and creative development.  Culture and Sport Glasgow covers the cost of the gallery's overheads, and provides a small subsidy towards exhibitors costs (£600).  In return artists take full responsibility for organising, curating, installing, publicising, invigilating and de-installing their exhibition, all in line with CCA's own Health and Safety guidelines.

The schedule has now been completed for the period May 2009 - April 2010.  If you are interested in exhibiting, please contact Arts Assistant, Culture and Sport Glasgow for an application form.
