Obtaining Birth Certificates

If the Birth was registered in Glasgow (between 1855-present) you may obtain an extract by one of the following methods:

• personal visit
• by post
• by phone using credit/debit card

It may also be possible to obtain a birth certificate registered anywhere in Scotland (between 1855 -2004).  Further information can be obtained by contacting Registration Office (Phone: 0141 287 7678)

Personal Visit

Extracts may be obtained in person over the public counter.  The cost is £13.50.  Any extract from the current year costs £8.50.  In order to obtain an extract it is helpful to know:

• full name at birth
• date and place of birth 
• mother's maiden surname

Cheques and Postal Orders should be made payable to Glasgow City Council.  The cost is 13.50 per extract plus postage.  Extracts from the current year cost £8.50 plus postage.  

All payments outwith United Kingdom should be in sterling in the form of an international money order or banker's draft.
