Agency placements provide a range of opportunities where community service orders can be performed on an individual as opposed to a group basis. Across Glasgow, the voluntary and statutory sector support Criminal Justice Services to retain offenders appropriately in the community while performing valuable work and safeguarding community safety. There are over 200 individual placement agencies which provide unpaid work opportunities for the community service scheme.
Some examples of agency placements include:
- placements working with older people within residential units, day-care facilities and lunch clubs
- placements with people with disability or mental health problems, mainly in befriending, support and escorting roles
- placements in multi-cultural settings, assisting older people day-care provision, youth club supervision or community halls
- placements within nurseries, after-school care or youth clubs
- placement which involve working with homeless clients
- placements in animal welfare agencies
The work tasks involved at the agencies are also varied and include:
- gardening and ground maintenance
- caretaking duties
- kitchen, cafe duties
- befriending and supervision of clients
- escort / driving duties
- administration, clerical tasks
- shop assistant duties
- domestic tasks
- furniture uplifting and restoration
