What should I expect?

Glasgow Addiction Services branding

What should I expect logoBefore we can provide you with a service, we must look at what your needs are and how best these needs can be met.  This is called an 'Assessment of needs'.  An assessment involves discussions between yourself and staff from Glasgow Addiction Services.  Together we can decide what treatment and support you may need in the short and long term

The Community Addiction Teams (CATS) will support, advise and assist you to think about the ways in which alcohol or drugs are affecting your life, those around you and those you have responsibility for.

We will provide advice and support to help you understand more about the problems you encounter with alcohol and drugs, the effect that alcohol and drugs have on your health, well being, safety and the impact on families, including children.

We will help you to withdraw and detoxify from alcohol and drugs, sometimes at home with support from your GP and our nursing and social care staff and sometimes within arranged residential rehabilitation services programmes or by arranging admission to hospital.

Further help – if together we agree that you need help from another type of worker or agency, we can arrange this, for example hospital care, residential rehabilitation. We can also assist you to get in touch with services that will help you get into training and employment.
