The summer after we adopted Lisa we all went on a family holiday to Spain. Lisa was six when we adopted her and that holiday was her first time abroad. We spend the fortnight splashing in the pool and building sandcastles and Lisa loved it! I think it was a turning point for us: I always think of that holiday as the time when we properly became a family. (Susan, 40, adoptive parent)
Be part of someone's memories
Families come in all shapes and sizes. They come with arguments, smiles, small victories, 'skint' knees and each with their own stories and memories.
Could you be at the heart of someone's memories?
Right now, Glasgow urgently needs more adoptive parents.

My sisters and I used to turn the kitchen table upside down and pretend it was a boat sailing the high seas. We had blue linoleum on our kitchen floor, which was perfect for our game. We would sail through storm after storm till we reached our destination, Treasure Island - which was actually the rug in front of the coal fire. My Mum would bring us a wee picnic of roast chicken legs, sweet tea and biscuits to eat before we got back on board to set sail for home.
Now I often have to remind myself how great my Mum was, not only about us turning tables upside down, but turning the whole house upside when we were playing. I have to stop myself shouting at my daughter over the mess she makes when she and her friends are running around our house in crazy outfits, having fantastic adventures. I do just follow my Mum's simple rule though, which was: what you take out you put back, any mess made you clear up.
I'm so glad that my Mum, who has now sadly passed away, saw me become a Mum. She knew just how much I wanted to have my own family and adopting Elle Lucia made that possible. My beautiful daughter has brought so much joy into the life of my husband and I. I completely believe we were all meant for each other. (Clare Grogan, Singer and Actress)
My mum used to make me wear dresses all the time when I was a little girl and I hated it. So I would sit on the bin lid and slide down and rip my dress. I was such a tomboy!

I loved going to the beach with my little sister. We would spend hours there, splashing around. The sea was always cold but we didn't care. I remember it all so clearly. |
These snowsuits were in fashion at one point! My brother and sister and I loved the snow. We would build snowmen and throw snowballs at each other, although I couldn't throw very far.
