Children looked after away from home
Sometimes situations arise when children are unable to live at home with their families. These circumstances can vary widely, for example, a family may be unable to provide the level of complex care required by a child, or there may be an instance of family breakdown that cannot be resolved immediately, or a lone carer may need to go into hospital for a period of time.
Glasgow City Council has a statutory responsibility to ensure that children in these and other situations are looked after. The council provides and purchases a variety of types of residential care for children and young people. These include foster care, residential children’s units, and residential schools
, as well as other specialist services.
If your child is being looked after away from home see here for further information for parents.
