Families and Children - Family Support

Glasgow City Council’s Family Resource Teams offer support to pre-school children and their families. The services are targeted particularly at where children are, or at risk of, being looked after and accommodated away from home, and at families where there are child protection concerns.

What the services offer

The kinds of services that can be offered are:

  • Groupwork including:
    • drop-in group
    • parenting groups
    • activity groups, such as swimming and cooking
    • stress management
    • play and share

Groups will continue to develop to meet needs identified by parents. Some groups encourage participation with children, for others a crèche will be provided.

  • Individual Support

In some situations, support will be offered to families on an individual basis by named Family Resource Team workers.

  • Intensive Assessments

Assessments look at parenting skills and lifestyle issues, when consideration is being given to accommodating a child or where there are child protection concerns within a family.

These services are accessible subject to needs assessment which is carried out by the local team. See here for information on how to contact your local social work office.
