Support when leaving care

Leaving Care Services provides support for young people leaving the care of the council. The service works closely with colleagues in Social Work, Housing, Health, Education and Careers, as well as with voluntary agencies, to meet the needs of young people.

Leaving Care Services works with individual young people to help them through the transition process from being supported in a residential or foster care setting towards independence in the community.

Leaving Care Services offers practical one to one support to young people along with help and advice in accommodation, health, education and employment issues. The service also provides an opportunity to work together with other young people, whether for leisure and recreational activities or to develop social skills.

Individual support to young people can continue until they are in their early twenties and have established a degree of independence.

Supported Carers

Glasgow City Council strives to provide young people leaving care with the best support available. One highly successful method of supporting these young people is through supported care. Further information about supported carers is available.

Apart from initial information and advice it is usually necessary to be assessed for a service. There is no charge for assessment but for some services, for example, home care, there may be a charge, but this normally depends on your income. For more information on assessment see What is an assessment?
