Glasgow Translation and Interpreting Service
If you or someone you know needs an interpreter to help you in getting services, you should ask for this assistance when meeting with the agency involved.
Interpreting and translation services are provided by Glasgow Translation and Interpreting Service (GTIS) which is a joint partnership between the following public service organisations:
Glasgow City Council Social Work Services (Lead partner); NHS Glasgow; Strathclyde Police; Scottish Refugee Council; Glasgow City Council Education Services;Glasgow City Council Asylum Support Project.
GTIS is the largest interpreting service provider not only in Scotland but also in the UK. GTIS responds to over 1,000 requests for interpreting every week. This means:
- Every two minutes an interpreter leaves for interpreting in and around Glasgow
- GTIS has a pool of 250 sessional interpreters speaking around 45 languages
- Over 625 different user organisations in and around Glasgow access GTIS services
- GTIS provides interpreting service 24 hrs 365 days
Interpreting services play a key role in ensuring that individuals who do not use English as a first language are able to get language support to assist them to access a range of services provided by Glasgow City Council, NHS Glasgow and a range of other service providers.
