Care Homes for Older People
Glasgow City Council contracts for and provides a range of care homes. These homes provide 24 hour support to people in accommodation that is designed specifically for this purpose. In addition to care homes a 24 Hour Supported Living Service has been developed as a direct alternative to Care Homes.
What is a care home?
The majority of care homes provide a service for older people with dementia. Some care homes provide for people under 65 while others offer care to different age groups. There will be qualified nurses on duty in some homes.
There are also specialist homes, e.g. for people with very high levels of dementia or Alcohol Related Brain Damage.

What is 24 Hour Supported Living Services for Older People?
Glasgow City Council Social Work Services has commissioned independent care providers to provide a 24 hour support service for older people as a direct alternative to admission to a care home. The main aim of this service is to enable individuals to live, with support, in their own homes and communities.
People accessing this service will retain their tenancy if they are within one of the service areas, or will be assisted to move to a suitable tenancy.
What support is available?
Individuals will receive support to meet their personal care, housing and social support needs.
The service uses a range of smart technology such as community alarms, fall detectors and door alarms to offer peace of mind to the tenant and their family and allow staff to respond quickly to any emergency situation.
There is a 24 hour staff presence available to ensure that tenants needs are fully met.
